The purpose of CreekFest:  Urban Adventure Run and Festival of the Arts, a project of the Houston Northwest Chamber of Commerce, is to promote awareness and usage of the Cypress Creek Cultural District. The first annual CreekFest will take place on Saturday, October 8, 2011. Festival events will stretch from Collins Park to Cypresswood Landing Shopping Center to the Meyer Park Pond (all near the intersection of Cypresswood Drive and Stuebner Airline in Spring).

Cypress Creek Foundation for the Arts will kick off their 15th season at The Centrum with country singer John Michael Montgomery!  Cypress Creek FACE looks forward to another amazing season!

Dons & Divas: La Traviata – 3 p.m., September 13, 2011
Excerpts to be peformed fromthe famous opera by Giuseppe Verdi.  The title “La Traviata” means literally The Fallen Woman, or perhaps more figuratively, The Woman Who Goes Astray. It was originally entitled Violetta, after the main character.  The opera has become immensely popular and it is second on the Operabase list of the most-performed operas worldwide, behind only The Magic Flute.  Ticket: $6-12.

John Michael Montgomery – 8 p.m., September 17, 2011
Since the days when “Life’s A Dance” turned him from an unknown artist into a national star, John Michael’s rich baritone has carried that most important of assets–believability. Few artists in any genre sing with more heart than this handsome Kentucky-born artist.  Tickets: $30-60. 

Best of the NW Gala – 7 p.m., September 23, 2011
The Centrum Arts League will present the Best of the Northwest Gala, “Rope the Moon”, honoring Susan & David Diehl at 7 p.m. on Friday, September 23 at Champions Golf Club.  Gala attendees will enjoy a delicious sit-down dinner, silent & live auctions, and entertainment.  All proceeds raised support Cypress Creek FACE.

“Sounds Like Fun” at The Centrum

The Houston Symphony Orchestra will present their annual “Sounds Like Fun!” concert at The Centrum as part of Cypress Creek FACE’s Free Children’s Series.  The concert is free, and no tickets are required. Be sure to come 30 minutes early so the kids can play musical instruments at the Instrument Petting Zoo.

FACE presents Barbara Tucker

Barbara Tucker will be performing at The Centrum on May 10 at 3 p.m. as part of the Cypress Creek FACE Promenade Series.  Tickets are $12/Adult, $10/Senior, and $6/Student. (Group rates available.)  

Ms. Tucker’s program will include the spiritual “Wade in the Water”, Bricuss/Newley’s “On a Wonderful Day”, and Berlin’s “God Bless America.”  Phillip Hall will accompany Ms. Tucker.   Also joining Barbara Tucker on The Centrum stage are Earl Collins, saxophonist, and the Alief Jazz Ballet dance company from the Alief Independent School District.

Free refreshments will be served beginning at 2 p.m. in the lobby of The Centrum.

FACE presents “Chicken Big”

As part of Cypress Creek FACE’s Family Series, Katy Visual & Performing Arts Center will present Chicken Big at the Centrum on April 30th.  With wacky, laugh-out- loud humor and silliness to spare, this BIG twist on the classic Chicken Little story lends a whole new perspective to what it means to be chicken.

FACE presents The Fidelis Quartet

Cypress Creek FACE will present The Fidelis Quartet, one of Houston’s premier chamber music ensembles. The ensemble consists of violinists Rodica Gonzalez and Mihaela Frusina, sisters from Romania; violist Wei Jiang; and cellist Jeffrey Butler.  Initially formed in 1997 to perform at Symphony functions, its scope of activities has since expanded to include concertizing, community outreach presentations, recitals, and televised performances. June 2005 marked their New York Carnegie debut. May 3rd 2011 is their return to Carnegie.

Tickets: $12/adult, $10/senior, $6/student.  Groups tickets are available.  Seating is general admission.  Free punch & cookies are served at 2pm!

FACE presents John McDermott in concert

As part of Cypress Creek FACE’s StarLit Series, John McDermott will perform at the Centrum.  John McDermott is a Scottish-Canadian tenor best known for his rendering of the song “Danny Boy” and for his commitment to veterans’ causes.  This will be his third visit to the Centrum over Cypress Creek FACE’s 14 year history.  FACE is excited to welcome John back!

FACE presents Ars Lyrica: The St. John Passion

As part of Cypress Creek FACE’s Promenade Classics Series, Ars Lyrica Houston–a Grammy-nominated early music ensemble–will present The St. John Passion at the Centrum on March 25.  Bach’s setting of the passion narrative from the Gospel of John is sacred drama of the highest order. This beloved work, presented in collaboration with the Moores School of Music Concert Chorale, features tenor Tony Boutté as the Evangelist and a stellar lineup of soloists and players. Select singers from the Klein High School Choir will also join the ensemble.

FACE presents ArtsPower’s “Madeline & the Bad Hat”

ArtsPower’s “Madeline and the Bad Hat”, an original musical based upon the much-loved book, captures the blithe yet touching spirit of Ludwig Bemelmans’s Madeline series. It traces the adventures of a young Parisian girl who – despite starting off on the wrong foot with a mischievous new neighbor – eventually learns that first impressions aren’t everything.

“Madeline & the Bad Hat” is part of Cypress Creek FACE’s Free Children’s Series.  All children’s concerts are free and no tickets are distributed. 

Cypress Creek FACE is located at 6823 Cypresswood, Spring, TX 77379 at the Centrum Building of the Cypress Creek Community Center.
