Seasons Greetings to everyone! Check out the Alliance’s various organizations on the right side of your screen – we each have shows and events that your family will love. Below is a small sample of what’s going on in Northwest Houston this holiday season…

Cypress Creek Christian Community Center
Dickens Market – Do your holiday shopping with a Victorian flair!
The 9th annual Dickens Christmas Market will take place on Friday, November 18 and Saturday, November 19 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Cypress Creek Community Center.  Market attendees can look forward to high-quality crafts and merchandise and delicious food.  Feel free to come and just browse – there is no admission price.

Cypress Creek Community Chorale Concert - ‘Hallelujah! Come, Let Us Adore Him!’
The Cypress Creek Community Chorale will present a holiday concert on Sunday, December 4 at 7:00 p.m.  Admission is free!

Houston Dance Theatre
Houston Dance Theatre will present its elaborate 29th Annual Production of “The Nutcracker Ballet.”  Performances will be held Thanksgiving weekend at the Geiger Performing Arts Center located at the Westfield High School campus.  Reserved seating tickets are $20.

Symphony North of Houston
Their December concert on Saturday, December 3, will feature holiday favorites including ‘T’was the Night Before Christmas’ with a guest narrator.  Concert to take place at Northwoods Presbyterian Church at 4 p.m.  Free admission!  Donations are always welcome & appreciated.

Symphony North of Houston presents Greatest of All Cello Concertos

Symphony North of Houston presents their Early Spring Concert

The Symphony North of Houston will perform at Northwoods Presbyterian Church with guest artist Richard Nunemaker.  Nunemaker is a clarinetist and a well-known virtuoso on the Houston music scene.  He will perform Copland’s Clarient Concerto and the symphony will also perform Grofe’s Grand Canyon Suite.

This event is free but donations are always welcome.

Symphony North of Houston in concert at Northwoods

Symphony North of Houston will be performing with guest pianist Jasmine Hatem at Northwoods Presbyterian Church on February 20th.  The program will include Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 1, Brahms’/Dvorak’s Hungarian Dances No. 17-31, and Hindemith’s Symphonic Metamorphosis of Themes by Carl Maria von Weber.  Admission is free but donations are always welcome.  For more information please visit www.northwoods.org or www.symphonynorth.org

Local Young Artist Concerto Winners Shine at Symphony North of Houston Concert

Symphony North of Houston presents their Young Artist Concerto Competition winners with a free concert on Sunday, June 27, 2010 at 4:00 p.m. at Northwood’s Presbyterian Church.

Nicolas Chona, first place winner, will perform Mozart’s Clarinet Concerto in A Major 1st Movement.  Second place winner, Liana Wang, will perform Mozart’s Concerto No. 23.  The concert will also feature Ravel’s Mother Goose and Rossini’s The Barber of Seville Overture.

Chona began his studies on the clarinet at the age of 10.  He has won numerous top awards from the TMEA Region band and orchestras as well as performing with Houston Youth Symphony for the past four years. He plans to attend Rice University in the fall where he will major in clarinet performance.

Wang, will be a seventh grader at in the Vanguard Program at T.H. Rogers Middle School.  She has placed first in numerous area competitions.  Last year she also performed on The Front Row Live Broadcast for KUHF 88.7 public radio at Discovery Green Park.

The Young Artists Concerto Competition provides young musicians with the experience of auditioning and performing with a live symphony orchestra. Performances of this type allow young musicians to gain confidence in performing and encourage them to continue with their musical education.
