Summer Reading Program Starts June 3
This year’s theme is “Have Book – Will Travel.” is a Summer Reading Program for children, teens and adults will have online enrollment again this year on the library web page (www.hcpl.net) so mark your calendar to get started right from the beginning.

Pearl Nights

Artists Scott Richards and John O’Dell, known as Roarshak vs. Insula, combine live electronic music and video projections in this exciting one-night event. The highlight of the evening is the debut of a new work, Electric Fields, which explores the idea of making visible the invisible electrical activity between bees and flowers. Roarshak morphs video, found imagery, and animation into five vignettes while Insula contributes his latest electronic musical works.

Also featured: musical guests Tunefarmer and Chill_Dude.

Bernard Slade created a wonderful romantic comedy with a huge heart when he wrote TRIBUTE, a father & son story of incredible warmth and humor. The play is about a father searching for a son, a son’s acceptance of his father, and a man who is everyone’s friend, and nobody’s hero. The plot focuses on Scottie Templeton, a charming, popular personality who has spent his life shirking responsibility as he tap dances through life. When he discovers he is terminally ill, he attempts to reconnect with his long estranged son – thus setting the stage for Slade’s magical play of family love & redemption. From the award-winning writer of “Same Time Next Year”, TRIBUTE is a heartwarming comedy about family and forgiveness.
The Texas Repertory Theatre production of TRIBUTE features Texas Rep favorites Jim Salners, Jeffrey S. Lane, Katrina Ellsworth, and Kyle Cameron as well as Niki Mondellini, Jamie Hughes, and Elizabeth Marshall Black making their Texas Rep debut under the direction of Walter Baker.

FACE is offering their first annual Summer Dance Camp, from June 10 – 14. The camp is geared for children entering K through 5th in the fall. Campers will explore various forms of dance including ballet, hip hop, jazz, world, and creative movement with an optional field trip on Friday, June 15, to the Houston Ballet’s new Center for Dance facility. Kevin Eubanks is a gifted musician and prolific composer. Kevin is also well known as the leader of Jay Leno’s Tonight Show Orchestra for 18 years. Kevin’s laid back style and affability belie the concentration and focus that have made him one of the most accomplished guitarists of his or any generation.
In a career that took flight in 1985 with immediate commercial and critical acclaim, guitar virtuoso Stanley Jordan has consistently displayed a musical persona of openness, imagination, versatility, respect and maverick daring. Be it bold reinventions of classical masterpieces or soulful explorations through pop-rock hits, Jordan can always be counted on to take listeners on breathless journeys into the unexpected.
