Seasons Greetings to everyone! Check out the Alliance’s various organizations on the right side of your screen – we each have shows and events that your family will love. Below is a small sample of what’s going on in Northwest Houston this holiday season…

Cypress Creek Christian Community Center
Dickens Market – Do your holiday shopping with a Victorian flair!
The 9th annual Dickens Christmas Market will take place on Friday, November 18 and Saturday, November 19 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Cypress Creek Community Center.  Market attendees can look forward to high-quality crafts and merchandise and delicious food.  Feel free to come and just browse – there is no admission price.

Cypress Creek Community Chorale Concert - ‘Hallelujah! Come, Let Us Adore Him!’
The Cypress Creek Community Chorale will present a holiday concert on Sunday, December 4 at 7:00 p.m.  Admission is free!

Houston Dance Theatre
Houston Dance Theatre will present its elaborate 29th Annual Production of “The Nutcracker Ballet.”  Performances will be held Thanksgiving weekend at the Geiger Performing Arts Center located at the Westfield High School campus.  Reserved seating tickets are $20.

Symphony North of Houston
Their December concert on Saturday, December 3, will feature holiday favorites including ‘T’was the Night Before Christmas’ with a guest narrator.  Concert to take place at Northwoods Presbyterian Church at 4 p.m.  Free admission!  Donations are always welcome & appreciated.

Festival of the Arts!

The purpose of CreekFest:  Urban Adventure Run and Festival of the Arts, a project of the Houston Northwest Chamber of Commerce, is to promote awareness and usage of the Cypress Creek Cultural District. The first annual CreekFest will take place on Saturday, October 8, 2011. Festival events will stretch from Collins Park to Cypresswood Landing Shopping Center to the Meyer Park Pond (all near the intersection of Cypresswood Drive and Stuebner Airline in Spring).

Family Day at The Pearl

10 am-5 pm, Saturday, July 9, 2011

ALL DAY EVENTS:
Free docent-led tours of the current exhibitions, Views of Mt. Fuji and Mari Omori, make paper decorations for Tanabata (a Japanese star festival), write down and tie your wish to one of our Tanabata bamboo trees in the Smith Foyer, or make an origami book in the Smith Foyer.

1:30pm
Look-and-Listen Tour with a Museum Docent. The tour begins with a read-aloud story time and then participants will look at and discuss one work of art in the current exhibition. This tour is intended for preschoolers.

LSC-North Harris Summer Band Concert

June Events at The Pearl

Drop In Art Wednesdays: June 8 – August 3
Stop by the Pearl Fincher Museum of Fine Arts each Wednesday afternoon 3:00-4:00pm, June 8 to August 3, for free art projects, performances, and programs about Japanese culture. Origami Station and a Look-and-Listen Story Time every week. The programs are free, open to the public, and appropriate for kids of all ages. Drop In Art Wednesdays are supported by the Pearl Fincher Museum of Fine Arts Volunteer Guild.

Family Day: June 11, 10am-5pm
The Kaminari Taiko Drummers will perform at 11:30am and 1:00pm in the Smith Foyer. Our all-day art project will be Japanese-inspired paper people.  Make a woman in kimono or a samurai!  A museum docent will lead a look-and-listen tour for pre-schoolers at 1:30pm. The Origami Station will be open all day.  Help us achieve our goal of making 1,000 cranes for Japan.

Featured Artist Reception: June 16, 6:30pm

The paintings of longtime friend to the Pearl Lesley Humphrey will featured in the Community Gallery during the month of June.  A full artist member of the American Academy of Equine Art, Lesley was selected as the official artist of 2011 Kentucky Derby. Her friends, fellow artists, and the Pearl family are excited to celebrate this honor with her during a lecture and reception on Thursday, June 16 at 6:30pm. All are welcome, though space is limited.  Ladies are encouraged to wear their hats!

“Sounds Like Fun” at The Centrum

The Houston Symphony Orchestra will present their annual “Sounds Like Fun!” concert at The Centrum as part of Cypress Creek FACE’s Free Children’s Series.  The concert is free, and no tickets are required. Be sure to come 30 minutes early so the kids can play musical instruments at the Instrument Petting Zoo.

The Northwoods Concert Series presents parts one and two of Haydn’s Creation on Sunday, May 22, at 4:00 PM at The Centrum, Cypress Creek Christian Church 6823 Cypresswood Dr., Spring, TX. This performance under the direction of Kinley Lange features Soprano Nancy Curtis, Tenor John Weinel, and Bass Steve Driver with the Sanctuary Choir and Orchestra of Northwoods Presbyterian Church. With a libretto based on passages from Paradise Lost, Genesis and Psalms, the oratorio is among Haydn’s most inspired works. Haydn’s subject is the creation of heaven and earth, expressed through remarkably powerful music.

Symphony North of Houston presents Greatest of All Cello Concertos

 Author to Speak at Annual Meeting 

Join the Barbara Bush Library Friends at their Annual Meeting on Monday, May 9, in the Earl Elliott Room.  

The featured speaker is Melissa Williams, author of the Iggy the Iguana and the Turtle Town series for kids, owner of LongTale Publishing, and founder of READ3Zero, a Literacy Foundation.

Melissa has been writing stories since the age of eight . Many were inspired by real-life experiences with childhood pets she owned while growing up in Houston. 

Melissa connects to her young readers by visiting schools and speaking to students, giving hands-on insight into the writing and publishing process. Melissa also hosts writing workshops, summer camps, and book clubs for her readers through out the year.

Cypress Creek Community Chorale will perform a Choral Vespers

Save the Date! May 1 at 7pm. Cypress Creek Community Chorale, under the direction of Clara Lewis, will perform a Choral Vespers, “Speak to One Another” at the Lanier Theological Library, Stone Chapel.   Admission is free but you must register online to attend at www.laniertheologicallibrary.org.
