Fall Events at the Pearl

Junior Art Workshop: 
4:30-5:45pm, Sept. 27 – Nov. 15
Junior Art Workshop is the Pearl’s After-School Art Class for kids ages 8-12.  The workshop series includes 8 classes (10 hours of instruction time) and all of the supplies to complete the projects. Classes begin September 27 and meets Tuesdays from 4:30-5:45pm through November 15. Tuition is $145 for non-members and $120 for members. Space is limited.

The theme for Junior Art Workshop this fall is the landscape.  Inspired by the landscape paintings in the exhibition, The Landscape in Art, the junior artists will create a range of pieces that explore natural, historic, urban, and imagined landscapes. The junior artists will complete at least one project per class while exploring a variety of media and techniques.

Lalique, and Art Glass of the 19th and 20th Centuries with Tim Novak: 6:30pm, Thursday, Sept. 29
Pearl Director Tim Novak speaks on the topic of 19th- and 20th-century art glass in coordination with the exhibition, A Passion for Glass, organized by Museum of Fine Arts, Houston (MFAH) and on display at the Barbara Bush Library from September 12 through November 21, 2011.

Following the lecture, Curatorial Assistant in Modern and Contemporary Decorative Arts and Design at MFAH Rebecca Elliot will lead a special tour of the exhibition on the Barbara Bush Library 2nd Floor. A reception will follow in the Smith Foyer at the Pearl.

Pauling Piano Dedication Recital: 7pm, Saturday, Oct. 15
Join the Pearl Fincher Museum of Fine Arts as they mark a new chapter in their history with the dedication of the Dr. Fred and Wanda Pauling Piano. The Dedication Recital will feature pianists Dr. Roger Keele and John Hendrickson performing works by Ravel, Debussy, Brahms, and Beethoven on the new Steinway L-Series Grand Piano. In addition, Dr. Keele will premiere a new work composed for the Paulings during this special evening. Proceeds from this event will support music programming at the Pearl. The recital will take place in the Main Gallery and a reception will follow in the Smith Foyer.

Tickets: General Admission.  Adults $20, Seniors $15, and Child/Student $10.  Space is very limited. 

Tickets are available through the Cypress Creek FACE box office (across the street from the Pearl), or by phone 281-440-4850.  There is a $1 fee per ticket regardless of payment.
